What Tips can you give me for better mental health

As a therapist, this is one of the most common questions I get. There's no magic bullet, but through my work and my own life experience, I've seen these eight things consistently help people feel better.

  • Eat Well: Your brain and gut are connected. Try adding fresh produce to your meals and notice the difference. Don't forget to drink water!

  • Embrace Nature: Feeling overwhelmed? Step outside. Nature has a way of helping us hit the reset button on a tired, stressed mind.

  • Connect with Others: It's easy to live life online, but we need in-person connection to thrive. Make time for the people who matter.

  • Slow Down: Our world is fast-paced. Intentionally taking moments to be present and switch off can help you feel less overwhelmed and more in control.

  • Practice Self-Compassion: Stop trying to be perfect. You are unique and valuable just as you are. Embracing your whole self, "warts and all," is a beautiful act of self-love.

  • Sleep Smart: Good sleep is the base of everything. Your brain needs time to rest and recharge. Try minimising screen time before bed to help your body produce melatonin.

  • Build Strong Boundaries: Those invisible lines between your work and home life are essential. They help you worry less and create space to truly relax.

  • Seek Support: It's not weak to struggle. In fact, it's a sign of courage to ask for help. Remember, therapy is a safe space to talk through anything on your mind.
